This is a lovely example of the scarce 'Shield' souvenir powder box sold between 1912 and 1923 by the novelty manufacturer Kronheimer & Oldenbusch Company. The idea was for women to hide their makeup in plain site & discreetly powder their face. Wearing the vanity case as a locket was a solution for women who were still wary about using cosmetics, and a souvenir locket could be mistaken for an innocuous keepsake rather than a controversial face powder container!
I have added my original designed chain and a vintage monogram piece to complete this wearable historic collectible!
