The mistress of a chateau would have worn a Chatelaine, a belt with useful household appendages. They could include items like a thimble, watch, key and in this case a small purse. The chain mail purse was popular in the 1860’s-1900. This sourced example is in wonderful antique condition and can still hold a coin or two. The addition of a cut steel buckle half from the same time period enhances this lovely necklace. Be still my heart!
