Bakelite was the first completely synthetic plastic, invented by Leo Baekland in 1904...it was used to make all sorts of items, however it wasn’t used for buttons until the 1920s. The popularity of these buttons lasted until the 1940’s and today, are some of the most sought after and highly collected buttons! You can’t help but to smile at all the interesting shapes and colors these buttons came in. They are happy buttons! The Bakelite Button Lady displays a great variety of these buttons, (and some Bakelite beads). She will make anyone who comes across her path, smile!
